Welcome...

Top of the morning, afternoon, or evening to the visitors of my new website. I'm a day late and a dollar short in taking so long to start it.

But this is opening day and I warn you I intend to do some regular blogging which, of course, may be of no interest to anyone but will be fun for me. It's the perfect time to begin. After a two year renovation I have joyfully moved back into my longtime home which now includes an elevator to take me to my beloved third floor office where I'll be working from this day forward.

It's an absolutely beautiful morning. The trees and bushes are just beginning to bloom and I rejoice in the renewal they imply. Spring is almost a month old but is just now happening. No one can say that the last few weeks held any promise that it would ever be anything but cold and rainy.

My new book Where Are You Now? came out last week as did my daughter, Carol Higgins Clark's new book Zapped. They both got good reviews from Publishers' Weekly and are doing very well in the bookstores which is extremely gratifying for us. No matter how many books I write, as one is coming out I have the same concern I had when the first suspense novel, Where Are The Children? was published. I did my best to tell a good story. Was my best good enough?

In the course of the renovation, I cleaned out the attic. You have to understand that this meant going through forty years of accumulated files and letters and pictures.

It's been both poignant and fun. I've come across early short stories and rejection slips from magazines, including one from an editor at Redbook who wrote, 'Mrs. Clark, your stories are light, slight, and trite.'

Looking back I agree. The two I believe I sent her were "The Princess and The Product" and "Love Can Be A Hubbly-Bubbly." Neither one of them ever saw the light of day.

But Where Are You Now? is seeing the light of day and for the next weeks I'll be traveling around the country meeting my readers. There's nothing I enjoy more. Without readers, we writers would bloom unseen on the desert air. That's why I want all of you to know how much I appreciate you. Till next time,
